May in MPC San Vincenti

May at the Mediterranean Dance Center in Svetvinčenat brings an international artistic residency, a workshop open to the community, and two contemporary dance performances as part of the San Vincenti Dances programme.

Throughout May, Austrian company CieLAROQUE, led by choreographer Helene Weinzierl, will be in residence at MPC developing the project BODYCHAPTERS. The artistic research explores the relationship between vulnerability and strength, belonging, transformation, and the presence of the body through different choreographic formats.
As part of the residency, the workshop Exploring Relations, led by dancer Luan de Lima, will take place on May 9 at 10:00. Open to everyone regardless of previous dance experience, the workshop explores relationships between body, space, and community through movement, touch, and shared motion.

The Austrian company will also present the performance IT’S ALL ABOUT on May 15 at 20:00. Through humour, vulnerability, and togetherness, the work observes everyday life and human relationships, moving between the abstract and the concrete, emptiness and fullness. Austrian portal tanz.at describes the performance as a work that “shows that life can be celebrated even in these times.”

The programme continues on May 16 at 20:00 with Show Gone by Matija Ferlin and Ame Henderson. After presenting a work-in-progress at MPC last year, the artists return with a Croatian-Canadian co-production that premiered at Montreal’s L’Agora de la danse.
Show Gone unfolds as a dialogue about partnership, distance, changing bodies, and the passing of time. Rather than nostalgia, the work creates a space of vulnerability, humour, and mutual listening. Through fragments, sentences, and scenes, the performance gradually opens a feeling of a new beginning.

Although aesthetically different, the works of Helene Weinzierl and of Matija Ferlin and Ame Henderson share an interest in the relationship between body, time, and presence, as well as the question of how to remain together within change.
