Residency - Roberta Milevoj - workshop 21.3.2026.

Roberta Milevoj, choreographer, performer and dance pedagogue from Pula, is once again in Savičenta for a residency at the Mediterranean Dance Center, where she is developing a new performance entitled PLAVO (Blue). Nearly ten years after Familija (2017), which was also developed at MPC, Milevoj returns to authorial work created for a larger group of female dancers. The residency is focused on the development of choreographic material, while the public part of the program includes a workshop open to the local community and professional artists, taking place on:
21 March at 10 AM
Mediterranean Dance Center, Svetvinčenat
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The new performance entitled PLAVO (Blue) draws inspiration from the idea of connecting natural living conditions and environmental realities with the abstract space of performance. Starting from the marine ecosystem, the project addresses the consequences of human intervention in the natural environment, placing them at the center not only of scientific and ecological reflection, but also of artistic inquiry.
The marine (oceanic) world serves as a landscape for the creation of a metaphorical space in which the degradation of natural resources is questioned, as well as the possibility of their renewal. By exploring behavior, appearance, relationships and transformations within the animal world, the work uses the language of dance to investigate the relationship between nature and humanity and the search for balance between the natural and the material.
The project examines the functioning of the marine ecosystem as a model for shaping choreographic and performative principles. By merging natural and artificial environments, the performance constructs a “choreographed nature” — a space where emotional experience and stage performance meet. The creative process blurs the boundaries between choreography and performance, and the body becomes a medium of transformation and exploration of inner resources.
“For nature to return to humanity, humanity must return to balance with nature, rather than placing itself above it. Only 3% restoration of the oceans is needed to restore balance to the marine ecosystem.” Roberta Milevoj

WORKSHOP
Choreographic Improvisation – From Movement to Performance
The workshop builds upon Roberta Milevoj’s working processes in dance and the development of a choreographic language within the field of choreographic improvisation. It is open to the local community and professional artists interested in exploring movement, the body and performance.
The research framework focuses on discovering individual movement patterns so that each participant can develop freedom of physical expression within predefined group tasks. The body is approached as a communicative mechanism that continuously generates movement and transmits it into space through individual and collective impulses.
The workshop draws on principles of somatic practices and explores the relationship between improvisation and composition in performance, offering tools for understanding choreography through the lived experience of body, space and time.
