Residency - Nik Rajšek: LOSER - showing 11.9.

Nik Rajšek continues the development of his artistic research LOSER during his residency in San Vincenti. Through movement, voice, sound and video, he explores decline, loss of control and the possibility of transformation. The research is directed towards the development of a durational, multidisciplinary solo performance.
Rajšek will share part of the process with the audience through a work-in-progress presentation.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

LOSER is an artistic research project that reimagines decline not as an end, but as a process of transformation. It is being developed towards a three-hour durational, multidisciplinary solo performance exploring what it means to “hit rock bottom”.

Through movement, voice, live sound and a complex system of onstage cameras, a fragmented self-portrait emerges, exposing the beauty, absurdity and devastation of downfall. The work explores addiction, obsession and the thin line between devotion and self-destruction. The stage becomes a shifting landscape of close-ups, distortions and live projections, where private collapse is magnified into public display.

Duration is an integral part of the research: it asks both performer and audience to experience decline as a process rather than a climax. Over time, exhaustion becomes form and breakdown becomes a kind of rebirth. The loser, rather than being dismissed, is reframed as someone who has ventured further into vulnerability than most dare to go.

LOSER is not about failure but about transformation – the strange, tempting power of losing everything and finding, within it, a different kind of freedom.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Nik Rajšek (1993) is a Slovenian performer and maker based in the Netherlands. After graduating from the Modern Theatre Dance programme at AHK, Amsterdam in 2015, he collaborated with various choreographers, most notably Ann Van den Broek.

In recent years, Nik has been developing his own artistic voice through a series of solo works exploring his personal approach to performance, movement and film. In 2025, he became one of the artists of Station Noord, a network and development programme for emerging makers in the northern Netherlands.

Rather than focusing solely on dance or choreography, he explores what it means to perform and how we form a relationship with those who watch. He searches for moments in which both he and the audience move beyond the surface of movement and encounter the pure, raw emotion that lies beneath. In those moments, the boundary between performer and spectator dissolves, opening a space of shared emotion, vulnerability, mutual understanding or conflict.
