Open Call for Artistic Residencies in 2027

The Mediterranean Dance Center (MDC) in San Vincenti invites dance artists and collectives to apply for its 2027 residency programme.

The call is intended for artists looking for time and space to develop new projects, continue working on existing projects, or pursue artistic research. It is open to projects in contemporary dance, physical theatre, performing arts, and hybrid forms related to the body and movement.

The MDC residency programme is primarily a space for artistic work and the development of creative processes, with production and technical support and opportunities for different forms of sharing work and engaging with audiences and the local community.

 

CONDITIONS OF THE CALL

Up to 8 projects will be selected for residencies in 2027.
Residencies can take place within the following periods:

  • 4–15 March 2027
  • 11–20 April 2027
  • 9–18 May 2027
  • 31 May–13 June 2027
  • 12–18 July 2027
  • 19–25 July 2027
  • 9–23 August 2027
  • 2–13 September 2027
  • 19–29 September 2027
  • 1–10 October 2027

It is not necessary to use the entire period. Applicants may propose a shorter stay according to the needs of their project, as long as it falls entirely within one of the listed periods.
Applications may be submitted in Croatian or English.
Application deadline: 10 October 2026

MDC provides:

  • studio space (9 × 20 m, wooden floor, black or white dance floor, basic lighting),  accommodation for up to 5 people in a shared sleeping area on the gallery above the studio, with access to a dressing room, bathroom facilities and kitchenette,
  • a daily food allowance of €20 per person,
  • basic technical support, subject to the Center's capacities,
  • production and communication support during the residency.

Artists are expected to:

  • cover their own travel expenses and costs related to the creation of the project (props, set, costumes, collaborators' fees, etc.),
  • take part in at least one form of sharing their artistic process during the residency. This may include a talk, workshop, open rehearsal, work-in-progress presentation, performance, or another format related to the project.
    The specific format and scope of sharing will be agreed with the selected artists as part of the residency offer, taking into account the nature and stage of development of the project, as well as MDC's programme and organisational capacities.

NOTE: In the final steps of the application, you will have the option to make a donation and choose the amount you wish to contribute to the Mediterranean Dance Center. Donations are entirely optional and have no influence on the selection process.
