Mediterranean Dance Center, Svetvinčenat
November has traditionally been a time for new premieres at the Mediterranean Dance Center, and we close this year's programme with a performance for the whole family. Following a creative residency at MDC, Natalija Manojlović Varga and her artistic team present DivaGOAT, or Scenes from High Society, a new non-verbal theatrical fable. Following its Zagreb premiere and ahead of its presentation in Hvar, the production will have its San Vincenti premiere on Sunday, 29 November at 18:00.
ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
DivaGOAT, or Scenes from High Society is a non-verbal theatrical fable for the whole family.
Life is peaceful in a small community of goats on a familiar patch of meadowland, where the only disturbance is the gentle sound of freshly picked chamomile being chewed. Until, one day, the idea of a diva enters the picture.
Enter DivaGOAT: a celebrated, seemingly flawless goat with a record-breaking following and every reason to believe she is the GOAT, the Greatest of All Time. At the centre of this contemporary satire, she defies gravity, takes physical risks and pushes the limits of balance, both on the steepest cliffs and within her own community. She becomes an embodiment of rivalry, vanity and the irresistible desire to stand above the rest.
Playing on the heights of mountain cliffs and the heights of social status, the performance questions the values increasingly imposed on teenagers and, through them, on the lives of entire families.
What makes us important in the eyes of others, and what makes us valuable in our own? How much of our self-image is shaped by the gaze and expectations of those around us? Through humour, movement and play, DivaGOAT explores the need to belong, the desire to stand out and the point at which self-obsession begins to overshadow our attention to others.
