Mediterranean Dance Center enters new season

After the winter break, during which the Mediterranean Dance Center prepared its 2026 program and, with the support of the Istrian County and the Municipality of Svetvinčenat, renovated part of its facilities, the Center now enters the new season even better prepared for performances, residencies and educational activities. Further infrastructural works are planned throughout the year with additional support from the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia.

In 2026, the Mediterranean Dance Center presents a performance, residency and educational program, continuing to build a continuous presence of contemporary dance and movement in Istria throughout the year.

In March, Savičenta hosts resident artists Tomislav Feller and Marin Lemić, who are developing the project Adriatic Epic and will lead a workshop on 7 March at 10 am as part of their residency. During the same month, Roberta Milevoj is also in residence in Savičenta, developing her new project Plavo (Blue), and will lead a workshop at MPC on 21 March at 10 am.

As part of the first performance block of the San Vincenti Dances cycle, on Friday, 13 March at 8 pm, the solo performance S Robertom by author and performer Roberta Milevoj will be presented. Produced by INK Pula, the work is a dance solo in which the exploration of the past becomes the foundation for creating a performative work in the present. Through an autoreferential approach, Milevoj re-examines her own history and experience, placing them in dialogue with performance, connecting a long-standing professional engagement with dance to intimate, everyday fragments of life. The piece is both a confrontation with oneself within and beyond dance, and a journey through two decades of professional work on the contemporary dance scene. The guest performance is realized within the project Kazališna zima u Istri (Theatre Winter in Istria).

The Saturday matinee, on 14 March at 11 am, brings the performance The Luck Child directed by David Collins, produced by Žar ptica Theatre. Collins is a member of the world-renowned comedy duo The Umbilical Brothers, and Dijete sreće is his first performance for children. In it, he transforms the magic of mime, pantomime, physical comedy, slapstick and virtuosic sound imitation into 45 minutes of hilarious and highly precise stage performance. Originally staged in Australia as The Luck Child, the production was already in its first year proclaimed the best children’s production in Sydney, with a recommendation that all children should see it if we want them to fall in love with theatre from an early age. The Croatian version, performed by Amanda Prenkaj, brings the same performative energy and humor that captivate both children and adults alike.

Both performances in the first block of the Mediterranean Dance Center’s Savičenta pleše cycle are entirely free of charge as a gift to the local community.
