Residency - Ognjen Vučinić & DDA - workshop & showing 14.6.2025.
As part of the international project D. Dance Alliance, the Mediterranean Dance Center is hosting choreographer and performer Ognjen Vučinić from Pula, who is beginning the development of a new choreography in collaboration with dancers from the Zagreb Dance Company.
During his June residency, Vučinić explores the idea of space as a site of transformation — a place where past movements and choreographies are melted down, repurposed, and reshaped. Inspired by recycling processes, the work examines how energy — physical, emotional, or creative — is never lost, but transferred from one form to another. The performers’ bodies carry traces of previous dances, interweaving them into new patterns and opening a space for cyclical renewal.
On Saturday, June 14, Vučinić will lead a contemporary dance workshop, followed by a showing and discussion with the audience.
Contemporary Dance Workshop – The Moving Body

The workshop is open to anyone interested in exploring the potential of their own body through dance and movement. Through guided tasks, improvisation, and short choreographic sequences, participants will work on developing body awareness, coordination, flexibility, and expressiveness. Special focus will be placed on the relationship between the body and space, rhythm, and fellow participants, as well as connecting breath to movement. The workshop is suitable for all experience levels — from beginners to more experienced dancers.
What to bring: comfortable clothing for movement, a water bottle, and an open mind for exploring physical expression.
Work-in-Progress Presentation + Audience Discussion

The audience is invited to take a look into the first phase of this new choreographic work, learn about the research themes, and join a post-show discussion with the choreographer and performers. All suggestions and impressions are welcome contributions to the further development of the piece.

ABOUT THE D. DANCE ALLIANCE PROJECT
The D. Dance Alliance project brings together artists and organizations from Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Hungary, Austria, and Germany. It is developed in cooperation with: Delavski dom Trbovlje Cultural Centre, Iskriva Institute, Festival Velenje (SI), The Collective Foundation (BG), Zagreb Dance Company – Mediterranean Dance Center (HR), Faculty of Engineering Management (RS), and Sarajevo War Theatre (BA), with support from associated partners in Germany, Austria, and Hungary.
The project is carried out in connection with the New European Bauhaus on the Danube and the Balkan Dance Project, with a focus on contemporary dance production, technological innovation, international collaboration, and engagement with local communities.
