Residency - Atom Theatre - Creative Practices workshop 28.6.2025.

As part of their residency at the Mediterranean Dance Center, the Bulgarian dance company ATOM Theatre is developing a new performance titled Castles in the Sky. During their time in Savičenta, the ATOM team invites local artists and audiences to join an open workshop introducing the core methods and principles that shape their artistic process.

The workshop Creative Practices of ATOM is co-led by Stefaniya Georgieva, Kalina Georgieva, and Dorina Puncheva – three performers and co-creators at the heart of the ATOM collective, whose work focuses on embodied presence, collective physicality, and relational awareness.

Participants will engage in physical tasks, improvisational structures, and shared movement practices, including a short sequence taught not as a choreography to be copied, but as a living framework for exploring timing, rhythm, and togetherness.

The workshop is open to all artists, dancers, students, and movers with various backgrounds who are curious about process-based creation, collaborative authorship, and intuitive composition.

Stefaniya Georgieva is a choreographer, contemporary dance teacher, and artistic director of ATOM Theatre and the ATOM Choreographic Series platform. She holds a PhD in Theatre Studies and currently teaches Movement Training for Actors at the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFA) in Bulgaria. Since her choreographic debut in 2013, she has created numerous works presented across Europe and in South Korea.

Kalina Georgieva is a professional dancer, educator, and long-time ATOM Theatre collaborator. She joined the company in 2014 and now works as a lead performer, assistant choreographer, and creative contributor. A graduate of the National School of Dance Art in Sofia, where she specialised in ballet, Kalina has taken part in numerous international dance and theatre projects throughout Europe.

Dorina Puncheva is a dancer with over twenty years of experience on the Bulgarian dance scene. She officially joined ATOM Theatre in 2018 and has performed in key productions such as Crave, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, Chain Reaction, and Loop. She began dancing at the age of four and earned a BA in Dance Theatre from NATFA, where she is currently pursuing a PhD in the same field.
