MEMORY IN MOTION: a community workshop

MEMORY IN MOTION: a community workshop,
as part of the European project Danube Dance Alliance

On Saturday, July 19th, the Mediterranean Dance Center will host a community workshop titled Memory in Motion: Reimagining Svetvinčenat, organized as part of the European project Danube Dance Alliance. This international initiative brings together contemporary dance, theatre, urban design, architecture, and new technologies, with the aim of creating modular performances that will be presented both live and in VR format across cities along the Danube region.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
How does collective memory shape our understanding of place? Which stories could be retold through art and movement?

This two-hour participatory workshop, led by Martin Yankov and Irina Altanova from the Bulgarian-based Collective Foundation, invites residents and visitors of Svetvinčenat to explore local memory and space through personal associations, recollections, and imagination.

Using archival photographs, dialogue, and visual prompts, participants will uncover layers of meaning connected to the town’s public spaces. By linking personal narratives with spatial imagination, the workshop opens space for new reflections on how Svetvinčenat can be experienced, used, and reinterpreted in the future.

Participation is open to all – regardless of age, experience, or artistic background – and the insights and materials gathered during the workshop will serve as the foundation for an artistic co-production that will be developed in Svetvinčenat and included in the Danube Dance Alliance program.

ABOUT THE PROJECT: DANUBE DANCE ALLIANCE
Danube Dance Alliance is a transnational project that brings together artists, communities, and organizations from five cities along the Danube. It seeks to strengthen the role of contemporary dance in the region by fostering collaboration with other disciplines – particularly those that shape space and social context.

As part of the project, each city will develop modular performances that combine live dance with immersive VR experiences, rooted in local stories, images, and community voices. The result is a new form of performance that is simultaneously artistic, technological, and participatory.
