Land Before Time: Waterkind - performance 18.7.2025.
The July performance programme at the Mediterranean Dance Centre opens on 18 July with a performance on the central square of Svetvinčenta, where the artistic duo Land Before Time presents Waterkind, selected as one of the Aerowaves Twenty25 priority performances – a highlight of contemporary dance in Europe this year.

ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
Waterkind explores the interplay and connection between two bodies without direct physical contact. Through improvisation, the dancers investigate how it is possible to experience closeness and the anticipation of movement without relying on touch – only through vibration, space, and heightened sensitivity.
Each gesture arises in response to the one before it, creating a constantly evolving dynamic. Outbursts and stillness, tension and release alternate with precision and resonance. Water is both inspiration and structure here – a metaphor for flow, force, and transmission, all translated into physical form.
BIO
Land Before Time is the artistic collaboration of Joanna Holewa Chrona and Yared Tilahun Cederlund, working across dance, music, choreography and sound design, often through site-specific formats. Their shared practice is grounded in street dance, shaped by the element of water, and rooted in dialogue with the spaces they inhabit. They are active as performers, producers and educators.
Joanna Holewa Chrona is a dancer, choreographer, DJ and project manager based between Sweden and South Africa. Her movement practice draws on a wide range of traditions – from politically charged popping in the USA to isiPantsula, Sabar and Afro-Cuban dance from South Africa, Senegal and Cuba. Over the past twelve years she has performed in numerous national and international productions, and since 2020 she has focused on creating her own stage work, festivals, exchanges and workshops. Her artistic drive comes from the honesty and freedom of improvisation, from music, and from a belief in art as healing and revolutionary practice.
Yared Tilahun Cederlund is a dancer and sound designer with a strong background in street and freestyle dance. In recent years, he has performed in productions by Cullberg (Mental State of Sweden, choreographed by Mattias Andersson), and worked as dancer and assistant choreographer on DRONE by Erik Linghede. As a music producer and composer, he has created sound scores for YES by Bambam Frost, YEBO YES by AFIA, Tr3i by Bianca Traum, and his own works PULS and […it is contained in…].
