Gray Box: UTOPIA/DYSTOPIA workshop

During their residency in Mediterranean Dance Center, a dance theatre collective Gray Box, will hold a workshop for the local public, entitled 'UTOPIA/DYSTOPIA'.

● Duration of the workshop: 1x30

● Who it is for: anyone over the age of 14, regardless of experience and mobility restrictions (including people with disabilities).

● What to bring: papers, pens, comfortable clothes that are easy to move around

● Objectives of the workshop:
- Developing performance skills, encouraging creativity
- Encouraging critical Thinking
- Experimenting with artistic collaborations

● Result:
- Text (creative writing)
- Individual and group performances

ABOUT GREY BOX:

Since 2014, Gray Box regularly holds performance workshops and seminars in festivals and universities across Europe (Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Novi Sad University, University of Artois, France) for generating new ideas, forms, and aesthetics. Their methodology completes with contemporary dance, performance, and visual arts practices the pedagogical heritage of two pioneers in the eld of education: the Bauhaus ideology about interdisciplinarity, and American postmodern choreographers working practices, based on collective creativity and movement-based process. During their workshops, in movement-oriented improvisation and performance-making exercises they use a large variety of accessories (objects, costumes, masks, makeup…) together with texts and music so as to develop participants’ creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.

“Exploring in the movement the boundaries between animal and plant, between nature and environment, power and society, speculative fiction and eco-criticism, we will encompass the boundaries and possibilities of how performance and dance can react and cause an anthropocentric riddle. During this dance-performance workshop, we will give equal weight to critical theory and artistic interventions, develop ideas by creating individual and group performances. At the end of the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to present their performances / choreographies to the audience, ”- Anna Ádám, choreographer of the Gray Box.
